Boys in Tree shows one easy and inexpensive way to enjoy summer baseball at Wrigley Field. Some see the tree seats as a precursor to rooftop viewing in the buildings that border the outfield along Sheffield and Waveland avenues. The day is July 14, 1932. Several of the very popular Ford Model A, the successor to the Model T, are parked along Sheffield Avenue. This is quite a popular tree and has been for years, as it clearly shows in this 1929 World Series Boater Hats image.
Year 1932 is a very good one for Wrigley Field baseball. The North Siders finish with a record of 90-64 and yet another trip to the World Series. Unfortunately, the opposition in the 1932 World Series is the mighty New York Yankees. They sweep the series in four not-so-close games. In Game 3 at Wrigley Field, Babe Ruth hits his legendary (alleged) “called shot” home run. Notably, 13 players from this series would go on to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. It’s also the first time both teams wear numbers on the backs of their jerseys.
