1930 Wrigley Field Dugout

Description

This Wrigley Field dugout shot features, from left to right: Riggs Stephenson, Kiki Cuyler, Rogers Hornsby and Hack Wilson. This is an incredibly fierce lineup for the North Siders. All but Stephenson make the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York.

Hornsby, aka “The Rajah,” is the only player in baseball history to hit 40 home runs and bat over .400 (in 1922). He wins seven batting titles and has a career .358 average that is second only to Ty Cobb. He plays second base for the Cubs from 1929 to 1932 and is player manager from 1930 to 1932.

Outfield Lewis “Hack” Wilson plays for the Cubs from 1926 to 1931. This image is from his epic 1930 season, which features 56 home runs (a National League record that stands until 1998) and 191 RBIs — unsurpassed to this day.

Hazen Shirley “Kiki” Cuyler plays right field for the Cubs from 1928 to 1935, and has a lifetime batting average of .321. Meanwhile, Jackson Riggs “Warhorse” Stephenson plays left field for the Cubs from 1926 to 1934. Rarely a full-time player, Stephenson nevertheless posts a career batting average of .336 and, in 1929 with Cuyler and Wilson, is part of the only outfield in National League history where all three players have 100 RBIs or more. That is some Wrigley Field dugout!
